Instructions After the Procedure

We have prepared brief instructions to help ensure a better and faster recovery after your procedure.

MEDICATIONS AFTER THE PROCEDURE

After the procedure, please follow the medication instructions prescribed by your dentist. The most commonly used medications after the procedure are:

  • Antibiotics
  • Painkillers
  • Mouth rinses

SWELLING

To minimize swelling, we recommend applying ice to the treated area immediately after the procedure and continuing to cool the area on the day of the procedure and the following day. It is recommended to alternate cooling throughout the day: apply ice for 10–15 minutes, then take a 10–15 minute break.

Swelling will be most pronounced the day after the procedure and will then gradually subside.

To further reduce swelling at home, try to keep your head in an elevated position at all times. Avoid lying flat, remain seated when possible, and avoid strenuous physical activity, including workouts.

BLEEDING

During the first few days after the procedure, slight oozing or blood-tinged discharge may occur, which is a normal finding.

PAIN

If pain occurs after the procedure, pain relief medication should be taken. We recommend Voltaren or Ibuprofen.

HEMATOMA / BRUISING

In a small percentage of cases, a hematoma (bruise) may appear on the face after the procedure. This is a normal occurrence and should not be a cause for concern. Over the following one to two weeks, it will go through all stages of color change (from purple to yellow) and will eventually disappear.

To help speed up the healing process, you may ask your pharmacist for a suitable product, such as a heparin-based ointment.

FOOD AND DRINK

For the first few days, eat only soft foods and avoid foods that contain seeds (such as sesame, flax, etc.), as well as very hot food and drinks.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Avoid strenuous physical activity (workouts). Light, moderate walks and spending time outdoors are recommended. During summer, avoid direct sun exposure and high temperatures for a few days.

FACIAL EXPRESSIONS

During the first week after the procedure, avoid excessive laughing, making facial grimaces, and any movements that strain the facial muscles, as such activities can create additional tension at the suture site and may cause the sutures to loosen.

ORAL HYGIENE

After the procedure, you should not skip brushing your teeth (morning and evening).

It is important not to brush the area where the procedure was performed for the first 3–4 days. After this period, you may begin to brush the area gently using a soft toothbrush. Within approximately 15 days, you should be able to return to normal brushing with gentle pressure. It is especially important to follow this protocol in areas where implants have been placed and where healing abutments are present – small cylindrical components that are visible in the mouth.

All other areas should be brushed normally from the first day after the procedure.
