If you are missing all your teeth, there are several options we can use to replace your teeth with implants. One of the most effective solutions is the All on 4 method. What makes this method specific and what are its advantages?

The first advantage of this method is that in most cases it is possible to position a temporary bridge on the placed implants the same or the next day. This means that 24 hours after implant placement you could have a fixed solution that allows you to eat and laugh normally.

Another great advantage of this method is that it is suitable for patients with a lack of bone in the posterior parts of the jaw. Due to the specific position during the implant placement, this procedure avoids additional bone reconstruction procedures, which means that the procedure is feasible in most people who have lost all their teeth.

If the situation does not allow it, then the patient receives a temporary total prosthesis. For All On 4 therapy, we use exclusively Nobel Biocare implants, which in the original version of this concept were the only ones used.

WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW

First

The implant is a small screw made of high-quality titanate material with a specially treated surface that serves as a support for crowns and bridges with which we can compensate a lost tooth or more teeth.

In case of complete lack of teeth, the “All on 4” method allows us to place 4 implants in the edentulous upper or lower jaw according to certain rules, and supply the jaw with an acrylic bridge on the same or next day. The acrylic bridge can later be replaced with a fixed prosthetic replacement made of metal-ceramic or titanium acrylate.

For detailed consultations about your implant surgery, we need a digital panoramic X-ray image and a 3D X-ray.

There is very little risk of failure in implant therapy and thus in All On 4 therapy. Globally, All On 4 therapy should have a 98% success rate.

Smile studio has the same success thanks to a detailed examination of the candidates, very detailed planning and execution of the procedure and subsequent continuous monitoring and control.

The implantation procedure is performed by a doctor specializing in implantology with local anesthesia, which guarantees the painlessness of the procedure. For a surgical procedure in which 4 implants are placed, it takes 60-90 min.

After the procedure, on the same or the next day on the implants is fixed temporary acrylic bridge.

Immediately after the procedure, you will be able to return home by car or other transport and have your first meals. We recommend that you rest at home that day and the next and cool your face with ice to make the swelling as small as possible.

Immediately after the procedure, you will receive additional information regarding recovery and advice on means to alleviate infection or pain.

To speed up the healing process of implants in certain situations, we use PRGF-Endoret technology. Immediately before the procedure, we take a small amount of blood from the patient, from which centrifugation separates plasma rich in growth factors. We place it on the bone around the implant, which accelerates healing.

Smile Studio owns certifications for the installation of several implant systems. We use exclusively Nobel Biocare implants for the All ON 4 procedure, because the whole concept of this therapy was originally made and conceived by Nobel Biocare more than 20 years ago.

We always make sure that the patient has some kind of temporary solution. If the situation allows it, we install a temporary acrylic bridge on the implants on the same or the next day.

The whole procedure, which includes implant placement, resting phase, impression taking, making and installing permanent prosthetic work, takes 6-8 months if it is the upper jaw, or 3-5 months for the lower jaw.

There are certainly preconditions for you to live peacefully after this therapy, but it is a mistake to think that nothing can happen to implants.

It is a misconception that nothing can happen to implants. Regarding the lifespan of a dental implant, it is important to note that dental implantology is a teamwork involving the implantologist, prosthetist, dental technician and, of course, the patient. In other words, all the links in that chain must function flawlessly if we want a long-lasting dental implant. A very important factor for the longevity of implants is oral hygiene and regular check-ups (1-2 times a year). If careful hygiene is lacking, plaque is formed, which over time turns into tartar, which leads to the withdrawal of gums and bones. In this way, the implants lose their bone support, which in extreme cases can lead to the loss of the implant itself (similar to periodontitis). If the patient is a smoker, the success of the procedure and further maintenance of the implant is reduced.

Dr. Damir Mikšić

Education

He graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry in Rijeka in 1997 with high marks. After finishing his studies, he continued his education abroad (Rijeka, Zagreb, Milan, Vienna, Berlin, Lisbon…), gaining knowledge from world-renowned professors such as Dr. Lindhe, Dr. Dragoo, Dr. Jovanovich, Dr. Malo, Dr. Anitua and many others.

He is a member of the Croatian Dental Chamber. He holds licenses for several implant systems, of which we would accentuate Astra Tech and Nobel Biocare. Nobel Biocare, as one of the few in Croatia, awarded him a series of certificates "recommended clinic for Nobel Biocare implants".

In 2016, he earned a degree in regeneration specialist in dental implantology and periodontology at the prestigious Charite University Hospital in Berlin.

He was one of the first in Croatia to obtain a license for PRGF technology.

Together with his wife he owns a dental practice since 2003. He speaks English, Italian and German.
