Instructions Before the Procedure

We have prepared brief pre-procedure instructions to help ensure a better and faster recovery.

  • If you are coming for a treatment that includes a surgical procedure, we recommend preparing cold compresses at home.
  • It is advisable to have pain relief medication available in case you experience pain. If you do not have any at home, please let us know and we will prescribe it for you.
  • Be sure to eat something before the procedure; do not skip your regular meals.
  • For procedures that require bone reconstruction, drink a slightly larger amount of fluids (one to two glasses of water) one to two hours before the procedure.
  • If you feel excessive anxiety regarding the procedure, it may be helpful to take a calming medication 1–2 hours before the procedure.
  • We kindly ask female patients to arrive for the procedure without facial foundation and without makeup on the lips, as the area around the mouth must be cleaned and disinfected before the procedure.

During every procedure, we follow the principle of minimal invasiveness to ensure the shortest and most comfortable recovery possible. However, if a more extensive procedure is performed, we recommend staying at home for one to two days and resting.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

SWELLING

Swelling may be mild and sometimes barely noticeable, or more pronounced, depending on the extent of the procedure and the body’s individual response.

To minimize swelling, we recommend applying ice to the treated area immediately after the procedure and continuing to cool the area on the day of the procedure and the following day. Swelling will be most noticeable the day after the procedure and will then gradually subside.

To further reduce swelling at home, try to keep your head in an elevated position at all times. Avoid lying flat and remain seated whenever possible.

PAIN

In over 90% of cases, patients do not experience pain, but rather mild discomfort and a sensation that something has been done, and therefore do not feel the need to take any pain relief medication. In a smaller percentage of cases (less than 10%), pain may occur after the anesthesia wears off, making it necessary to take pain medication. In such cases, we recommend Voltaren or Ibuprofen.

HEMATOMA / BRUISING

In a small percentage of cases, a hematoma (bruise) may appear on the face after the procedure. This is a normal occurrence and should not be a cause for concern. Over the following one to two weeks, it will go through all stages of color change and eventually disappear.

To help speed up the healing process, you may ask your pharmacist for a suitable product, such as a heparin-based ointment.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Avoid strenuous physical activity (workouts). Light, moderate walks and spending time outdoors are recommended. During summer, avoid direct sun exposure and high temperatures for a few days.

Additional tip

To help a hematoma disappear faster, make sure to consume enough vitamin C. It stimulates collagen production and supports skin regeneration, which helps protect blood vessels.

MEDICATIONS IN GENERAL

During your first visit, you filled out a questionnaire in which you listed all medications you take regularly or occasionally. If you have started taking any new medications or stopped taking any since then, it is important that you inform us in order to avoid potential risks to your health.
